About New Year and Time

Several days being off the radar, I was trying to devise my blogging plans in 2010 and simultaneously enjoy each second of holidays I had. Yeah, taking a break from posting anything on my blog could be a relief occasionally. From this day on, I plan to concentrate on this blog being my money making alternative, and that entails learning a lot on things I had never wanted to read or hear before (e.g. SEO tips, Page Rank, etc).

While the new year celebration is still fresh in the air, I bring you some time-related abbreviations (mostly) in Latin but generally used in modern English. These abbreviations are not new for those who love to read history literature. But as far as I am concerned,  rarely do learners or students ask what they really mean. Always keep in mind that the milestone in deciding the appropriate use of the abbreviations below is the (supposed) year when Christ was born.

  • AD (Anno Domini) : It is used before (in front of/ preceeding) years. It shows that a year  came after the Christ's birth. For example: AD 2000, AD 1978. But we can't say 2000 AD or 1978 AD.
  • BC (Before Christ) : It is used following years. It shows that a year came before the supposed year Christ was born. For instance: 1900 BC, 706 BC.
  • CE(Common Era) : It is synonymous with AD. The differences are its position and user's preference. CE comes after year and is preferred by writers who are not Christians. For example: 200 CE, 473 CE.
That wraps up my maiden brief post in 2010. Wish you all the best in 2010!!

  3. Nyubi,
This post is not wrongly titled, I think. The 1st paragraph tells what I did around new year, doesn't it?

  6. Anonymous,
    thanks for visiting and commenting.

    Rihan,
Sorry pal, like what I stated before on my previous post I'm now focusing this blog on a specific niche only (English learning). So never expect to find idealized, positive, wildly enjoyable thoughts at this very blog. Please read my personal opinionated essays here, at www.myliberatedmind.blogspot.com. See you there, bro!
